All About Microdermabrasion Treatment

The human skin is the outer covering of the body and is the largest organ of the integumentary system. Or can say the skin is the largest organ of the body but it’s still easy to take skin for granted. Unless there’s a problem, you may not think about your skin very much. But skin has an important job to do. Your skin reflects your health. To take care of it, you need to aware of the new technology which is made to maintain our skin health.

Microdermabrasion Treatment is a good option for maintaining your skin health. It is essentially exfoliating on steroids. If your skin tends to look dull or the texture a little bumpy, then a trip to a clinic for a course of microdermabrasion will leave your complexion soft and glowing in no time. This treatment is one of the more aggressive salon treatments: it is a physical resurfacing of the skin that reveals the fresh and young skin below. But many of us have some queries in our mind, because of these doubt people afraid of getting this magic treatment. Lets clear these queries.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that exfoliates and removes the superficial layer of dry, dead skin cells. Patients with melasma, a form of pigmentation caused by a combination of hormones, ultraviolet light, and inflammation, risk aggravating the pigment with almost any type of irritation. Microdermabrasion machines can buff and polish the skin using a stream of fine crystals or a diamond tip. Some systems have the suction to vacuum loose skin cells from the face.

How Does It Work?

Microdermabrasion works to remove age spots and lighten acne scars. The procedure is one of the favorite wrinkle treatments because it is performed quickly in a facial esthetics office. The physician uses a handheld instrument to spray small crystals onto the surface of the skin. The crystals exfoliate the skin layers while using suction simultaneously to remove the crystals and dead skin cells. More than one microdermabrasion treatment may be needed for wrinkle removal and other skin treatments it provides. Most treatments last about 30 minutes. Microdermabrasion can also be incorporated into a longer facial service, during which it removes the skin to help serums penetrate more deeply. Microdermabrasion has been used for multiple skin conditions. These include acne, acne scarring, age spots, dull skin, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles.

What Are The Types Of Microdermabrasion?

There are two basic types of microdermabrasion—crystal microdermabrasion and diamond microdermabrasion. They both offer similar benefits as both techniques work by loosening and removing dead skin cells to reveal younger-looking cells, but the process between the two is slightly different.

Crystal Microdermabrasion

For this type of microdermabrasion, a handpiece emits crystals onto the surface of the skin, resulting in a gentle abrasion or "polishing" process. Then the dead skin cells along with the crystals are suctioned off either instantaneously (in the same handpiece) or in a secondary process.

Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion

This type of microdermabrasion works with a diamond-tip handpiece that gently abrades and exfoliates dead skin cells. Like the crystal microdermabrasion, the dead skin is either suctioned off right away in the same handpiece or in a secondary process. The diamond-tip microdermabrasion is safer to perform closer to the eyes and has more flexibility in sensitive areas or on more sensitive skin.

What Are The Benefits Of Microdermabrasion:

  • It shrinks enlarged pores
  • Microdermabrasion can not only unclog pores but also reduces the size of them.
  • Reduce acne by clearing away dead skin cells and impurities that can block pores and lead to inflammation and spots.
  • Reduce the appearance of their scars that have accumulated due to acne.
  • Reduce the appearance and delay the formation of fine line and wrinkles
  • Microdermabrasion can help reduce the appearance of many different types of scars
  • Stretch marks are scars which begin right down in the dermis layer of the skin. Microdermabrasion has been found to help in a number of ways at reducing the appearance of stretch marks.
  • Microdermabrasion can lighten the appearance of areas of hyperpigmentation
  • Most importantly, It is one of the safest cosmetic procedures you can have done and does not require medications or long recovery time.

How Long Will the Results Last?

You will notice a healthy glow for a few days following microdermabrasion, but the best results can be seen after repeated treatments. The number of treatments recommended for maximal results can range from five to twelve, spaced two to four weeks apart. Maintenance of results requires periodic repeat treatments after the initial regimen is completed. It is vitally important that you follow all patient care instructions provided by your surgeon. Your surgeon will also provide detailed instructions about the normal symptoms you will experience and any potential signs of complications. It is important to realize that the amount of time it takes for recovery varies greatly among individuals.

Is there any side effect of this treatment?

The procedure is generally safe but should be performed by a salon consultant unless you have effectively performed the procedure before. Like any skin treatment, there are side effects that you should be aware of before undertaking the procedure. For a few days after microdermabrasion, a person may notice:

  • skin swelling
  • skin redness, similar to sunburn
  • bruising
  • a burning or stinging sensation
  • increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight

Is aftercare important in this treatment?

Yes of course, like other cosmetic treatment you need to care after this procedure:

  • The first 24 hours after your microdermabrasion are the most important when it comes to ensuring the best possible results. Avoid anything that raises your body temperature, such as hot showers, sauna, steam rooms and exercise for the first day after treatment. We want to keep your skin cool and calm
  • Maintain your skin’s plump, fresh and hydrated appearance by ensuring you drink plenty of water after your treatment. So stay hydrated.
  • Microdermabrasion removes dead skin, revealing the soft, new skin underneath. This new skin is particularly susceptible to the harmful rays of the sun. After the procedure, use sun protection (Sun protection of at least SPF 30 must be used at all times even when it is overcast or raining). This will help to ensure the best results and reduce the risk of side effects. Microdermabrasion may not be suitable for people who scar easily or have cold sore breakouts.
  • Sun beds – It is strongly recommended that you refrain from these during the course of treatment and for TWO WEEKS after your final treatment.
  • Use of saunas and any heat treatments are not recommended for a period of at least 2 weeks after the procedure
  • Keep skin dry for 24 hours after treatment. Water or products should not be applied to the skin until the day after treatment. So do not wear heavy make-up to 12 hours.
  • Avoid waxing and threading for 7 days. Also, avoid laser hair removal or any light laser and light-based treatments for a minimum of 2 weeks after.

Many salons and parlous around the world offer the services of microdermabrasion. The process is quite simple, painless, easy, and allows for better skin respiration. Once the dead layer is removed from the skin, the skin becomes brighter, fresh, and natural looking which improves the overall beauty adding to the personality. The feel generated in the process is very often compared with the feel of a cat licking your face giving a rough yet gentle texture. Before you book your appointment for microdermabrasion please remember: Tell your technician who will be doing your procedure about what changes you're hoping to see in your skin. Don’t hide anything about your skin so that your therapist will lay out an appropriate treatment plan for you, and also tell you what results you can expect from your microdermabrasion treatment. And also follow all the instruction of aftercare given by your therapist. And ultimately your skin will glow like a baby’s skin.
